Katie became a scrapbooker when she was only 14 years old and got her hands on a jar of rubber cement and a giant scrapbook album! She was a “die hard paper scrapper for more than 20 years” and literally created THOUSANDS of scrapbook pages. She ran her own informative scrapbooking website and enjoyed using templates to “spruce up her website and make it look more like a scrapbook.” In 2005, her Mother showed her an issue of a Simple Scrapbooks special digital issue and Katie was fascinated. She quickly knew she had found her “true calling” – lol! She hasn’t created a paper layout since, but don’t worry, she still enjoys looking at all her fun supplies as she used them to decorate her own art studio that she shares with her children.
Katie explains her style as “whatever I’m in the mood for!” and lets the photos dictate the design of a page. For Katie one of the most important ingredients of a layout is the journaling. She calls photos and journaling the “meat and potatoes” of the layout and once those are in place, she loves to have fun adding wonderful “treats and goodies” like beautiful papers and embellishments!
A favorite trick that Katie loves to use on her digital layouts is to apply a sepia filter on a photo and adjust the transparency to allow just a hint of color to peek through. Katie has had a feature article and several layouts published in Memory Makers Magazine and Memory Makers Idea Books. She almost always uses an Ali Edwards CK font on her layouts as she “adores Ali’s handwriting and style.”
Katie’s main hobbies are photography and scrapbooking and she goes by the name of “Katie the Scrapbook Lady” in the online world. She is a freelance writer and designer, and also enjoys reading, baking cookies and just being with her family. She has 2 children (ages 13 and 10) and she homeschools her son who has autism. Katie has been happily married for 16 years to her wonderful hubby who she has known since she was 13 years old!
