Journal:
Over my lifetime, I have had many nicknames. Lisa is the most common one, and it is typically the name most folks know me by. My legal name is Elizabeth, so I always had to ask the teacher at school to not call me by the name I was registered with, but to use my nickname. My little sister had a hard time saying my name, so her pronunciation became another nickname ... Gleason. My pediatrician called me Beth. My uncle called me Liza. In high school my best friend and I were inseparable. We became known as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum by some, Fric and Frac by others. During our senior year of high school we were in a terrible car accident ... flipping a convertible MG Spitfire end over end several times, finally coming to rest on the roof of the car. My last name at the time was pronounced “call” ... and another nickname became “Call of the Wild” due to the wild ride I took that night. Of all the names I have been called, though, my most favorite is Mama. When folks asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer from little tiny was “a mama”. I found my babies to be fascinating creatures. I enjoyed every second of diaper changing, feeding, bathing, dressing and playing with them. I knew instinctively that their time as little ones would go by in the blink of an eye, so I cherished each moment. Sadly, I was usually behind the camera, so there are very few photos of me with them. I was able to find these few! They bring back sweet memories that seem like they just happened yesterday!
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. -Psalm 139:13-16
