Lyrics from Jesus Loves Me
Journal: I don’t recollect my parents diligently taking me to Sunday school and church when I was very little. However, my Nanny did take me with her occasionally, and she instilled in me daily that “Jesus loves me” and that I am special to Him. My Nanny was a woman of character and her day-to-day life exemplified a love for Christ. She set the bar quite high for the rest of us! I recollect her playing the piano and singing “Yes Jesus Loves Me”. She would do this at home, and she would do it during Sunday school at Branch’s Baptist church. I didn’t always get to go with her, but when I did, I noticed how the other little kids just adored her and Louise Neal (her best friend). When I was about six years old, my parents began to attend a Lutheran church. I remember sitting in the services, but I don’t recollect Sunday school - probably because my Nanny wasn’t there. Another person who impacted my faith in Christ is my Aunt Carole ... Mama’s sister and one of my Nanny’s four daughters. Carole is vocal about her faith, and I listened as she shared about her “relationship with Jesus” with my father. It had a huge impact on me, and I remember lying in bed at night thinking about her words. As a teenager, my Mama began to impact my faith too. Her faith was strong but quiet. I officially and publicly accepted Christ when I was fifteen years old at a revival at Bethel Baptist Church. I felt I had known him all my young life, because of the seeds planted by Nanny, Carole and Mama. However, the more I learn about Him, the more I realize there is to so much more to learn. He is my dearest friend and companion. I am thankful for those who paved the way for me to have a relationship with him!
