Journalling reads: Christmas Eve in Daymar Drive, 1985. I was 11 years old in this photo and Cassie was 8 years old. Looking at this image brought back such wonderful memories of our rituals on the night before Christmas, eagerly anticipating Santa’s arrival! We would stay up and watch Carols by Candelight (Humphrey B Bear always a fave) and then put on our Santa pillowcases and set up our Santa sacks in the lounge room. We would put the Christmas cookies on a plate for Santa (I still make these every Christmas) and of course pour a pot glass full of beer! Mum and Dad would read us our Christmas Golden Books - ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas was always saved until last. Kisses goodnight and that wonderful feeling of being tucked up in bed listening for one tiny sound that might be Santa or his reindeer. The noises were usually the cicadas chirping away on a hot Summer night, but I remember that excitement and wonder as I drifted in and out of sleep, waiting for morning. When the first crack of light appeared, I would sneak out to see if the sacks had any loot in them, run back to wake up Cassie and then jump on Mum and Dad’s bed to wake them up so we could open our presents! Merry Christmas!
Thanks for looking and Merry Christmas everyone
