I was so ready to use one of SP's awesome holiday card selections, but the picture I had just needed a tweak on the usual holiday colors. I still may use one since I have another fave pic, but really liked this one. I need help though...

I need opinions - is this holiday enough? too much pink? I wanted pink to just be the accent but it somehow has become the major color. Does it overpower the photo? Any papers from any of the kits (I have most of them) do you recommend? Too much? Too little on elements? I would like to fit in '2010' but not sure how. This is a 4x8 card so not a lot of room to play with. Why does a holiday card need to be perfect? sigh....

      Green paper - Carousel
      Pink paper - Sweetie Pie
      Brown paper - Hopscotch
Flowers - Hopscotch, pink is a recolored
      Ribbon - Olivia
      Stitching - Damask & Dots
      Ric Rac - Sweetie Pie

I like it a lot! I think it looks GREAT and I LOVE pink being a big color, last year mine were done in LOTS of pinks, reds and greens!! Girly to go with my girls!

I LOVE the pink as well.... the elements are perfect. As for a helpful opinion, I find the background of the photo somewhat distracting; I'm wondering if changing the background of the photo to black and white would help? (Or maybe you would lose your accent colors if you did that.... hmmmmm.) And what about adding 2010 after McKelveys? (ex: the McKelveys 2010) Decisions, decision! lol

Good tips!! Thanks! Yeah, I debated on that background too, but Colorado and that aspen/aspen color go hand in hand. What's awesome - I got those dresses for 4.99 at Old Navy. Score!

p.s. For some reason my shadows aren't showing up. Weird. Well, they'll be on the final. You guys get the gist at least.

i LOVE it - this is the same size/style I do for my cards every year, too! I love non-traditional colors on cards To add a little more Christmas...what about using a glitter pink ball or star from Sugarplum dreams (linked)? you could put one in the middle where the flowers are? Also, that upper left section of the photo - you could put a little sumthin' sumthin' up there to hold the year? like a little tag stapled on, or a half-circle of paper or something else? Just tossing a few ideas out there - but you could leave it as-is and it would be awesome, too!

Beckie - great ideas. I haven't purchased Sugarplum yet but been wanting to just for those jingle bells. I didn't think about the upper left and a tag. Thanks!

      Ooh what a lovely photo!

As for an opinion, I think maybe blur the background of the photo a bit? You can do this by tracing around your kids on the photo using the pen tool, and after you finished tracing, right click and select "Make Selection". You'll see marching ants around your selection. Reverse the selection by pressing the "Ctrl+I" keys. Then right click and choose "Create Layer by Copy". Making sure the copied layer is selected, go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. You can play around the slider to choose the right amount of blur for the background. Then just click OK, and you're done!

Also..maybe change the background into sepia or black and white? I think it'll help to make your kids stand out in the photo.

Your two look so adorable here!!!! I love your take on a Christmas Card and especially the pops of pink. I think the leafy background looks magical!!! Don't really have anything different to add to all the previous comments. Except, do you have any Holly leaves? Maybe add them to the green flowers or the clustered bow - just make them small so as not to overpower what's already there.
