It’s almost time!!

In just a short while (1 hour to be exact!) we’ll post the first instruction right here on the blog!  If you’ve never participated in an event like this before, you’re in for a treat!  Here’s a little more information on how things will work:

  • I’ll provide one instruction for you every 10 minutes.
  • Often the instruction will tell you a type of material to use.  If no specific instruction is given on how to use that piece of material, then that means it’s totally up to you!
  • Text/Fonts…are “freebies” and can be used without being explicitly called for in the instructions.  This is primarily because journaling is a personal preference, and some love it and some don’t :o)
  • If you have questions about the instruction, please post a comment on the ‘instructions’ blog post.  We’ll answer your questions as quickly as possible!
  • The last instruction will be posted at 3:50PM (Eastern Daylight Time).  You’ll have an additional hour to “play with” your layout, but you must post your finished layout to the gallery HERE by 5:00PM (Eastern Daylight Time) to qualify for the prize drawings!
  • If you are having trouble uploading your layout to the gallery, you can find help HERE.

We’ll post the FIRST INSTRUCTION at 3PM sharp! (REMEMBER that’s United States Eastern Daylight Savings Time, folks!!)

We hope to see you then! :o)

A Color Study ~ Inspired by the Olympics

Hello everyone!  It’s Kim here today to share a little scrapping inspiration with you.  Ever want to stretch your scrapping style a bit and try something new?  I am in that place a lot and don’t always know where to begin.  But it is good to remember that inspiration is all around!  And with the Olympics just over, and the Paralympics just starting, there was a bit of discussion on the team about how that might inspire us in our scrapping.  So I took on the task of looking for inspiration as the games were going on.  And what did I see??  I thought I’d take a closer look at the prizes themselves… bronze, silver, and gold!  Let’s take a little color inspiration from the Olympics today, shall we?

Now I wasn’t quite sure how to start with metal colors.  I mean, I didn’t really think I wanted the entire layout to be metallic.  So here’s what I decided to do… First of all, I looked through SP kits and found all sorts of metal and sparkly goodies.  I decided I would try my best to get creative with these elements.  Second, I kept the rest of my color palette simple.  In each of the layouts, I used a neutral color and a few pops of another color to mix in with my metals.  I honestly wasn’t sure where all this would go, but sometimes that’s the fun of it!

OK, here we go!  Up first is my bronze layout.  I may have stretched a bit (depending on exactly what you define as bronze), but I think all of these metal elements could be labeled bronze!  With brown cardstock as my background and some pops of red, this worked great for these photos of my son (who LOVES anything with buttons)!

Next up of course is silver.  When I saw these photo frames in the Studio Chic kit, I decided to go with some darker silver elements, but then add in a little silver sparkle by applying a glitter style to a few other SP elements.  Gray seemed like the perfect backdrop for this one (along with the white sparkly paper from Winter Wonderland).  And a few touches of aqua brightened up the gray.  I’ve been meaning to do a layout about my scrapbooking, as almost every layout is about the kids!  This was a good time to finally put that idea to action!

And last, but certainly not least, is gold.  This one was the toughest for me, as I worried that too much gold could look a little gaudy.  But you know what?  I ended up with a special layout about a special guy… Daddy!  The title I chose seemed to make the gold in the layout make sense, know what I mean?  The black, white, and daffodil papers set up a nice background for the sparkles of gold.  And once again, I have applied a glitter style to a couple of SP elements to give them a different feel.

That’s all for my “inspired by the Olympics” post!  I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my thought process as I created these layouts.  It’s good to remember that inspiration can come from anywhere!  All you have to do is look around and give it a try!

Be sure and stop back by the blog tomorrow, as Rosy will share some yummy treats with us.  Bye!

Product Spotlight ~ Darling Paper Collection

Hello blog readers!  This is Kim here today to share a special Product Spotlight with you.  Why is it special, you ask?  Because in my opinion this collection is one of the most versatile products in the Shoppe.  Today we are spotlighting the Darling Paper Collection!  If you haven’t picked up this one yet, you will want to head on over and get it while it is ON SALE for a limited time for only $4.25!

So what do I love about the Darling Paper Collection?  To start with, can you say damask and polka dots??  These two patterns are fun to use in many different types of layouts.  There are endless possibilities of how to use them.  And added to that, all the patterns come in ten different colors that coordinate with SP’s other kits.  So when you want to add a little damask or polka dots to a layout, just look to this collection.  You’re sure to find a color that will work.  And SP has even included a solid paper of each color, plus an off-white and neutral.  This collection is a go-to for me over and over again as I’m creating layouts.

And now for the part that I love the most… brand new inspiration from the team!  I’ll start it off with a layout I created.  This one shows the elegant touch that those damask papers can give to a layout.

And when I am looking for something to add a little fun, these polka dot papers are the way to go.  They were quite perfect for this second layout I created!

Want some more inspiration?  How about this layout by Kylie?  I love the way she used the bright polka dot paper as her background.  It’s bold and makes a statement without taking away from the rest of the awesome design and photos.

Jenelle created this soft and relaxing layout with just the right touches from the Darling collection.  The color added by the aqua papers makes me want to jump in the water to cool off on a sunny day!  Don’t you want to just jump into the layout and start enjoying the beach?

Rosy has again captured a sweet and simple moment in the life of her children in this next layout.  The Darling papers are perfect for the patchwork look here.

And one more layout from Kylie will finish up our inspiration today.  I must just say cute cute cute.  (That’s for the cute papers, cute layout and cute baby!)

That’s all for today, but stop back again tomorrow as Beckie is back with us on the blog!  And she has a tips and tricks post to share from her knowledge of editing photos.  I can’t wait to hear her tips!!  Have a great day!
