I know the feeling...I too voted and lost :o( LOLOL!! What I intend to do as a workaround though is: in PS or PSE create a new canvas area of 1024x768 and then take the 1280x800 desktop and drag it to the 1024x768 and position it in the best spot, perhaps reducing its size ever so slightly...then add my photo/s etc (just as I would have previously). Now the 1280x800 is longer, but generally the bit that gets "trimmed" off is the solid background paper. I would then save my "new" desktop as a jpeg file to use as my computers desktop/wallpaper etc. SP & I wish that we could provide a design at every desktop size...but with such detailed & scrappy 'pages' it takes a fair amount of work to be able to bring just the two sizes to everyone each month...so I hope you understand that we have to go with the majority.
