Rosy’s Inspiration

Inspiration in Action?  Scraplifting Yourself and More?  What Inspired Me?  Rosy here and I can’t decide what this post’s title should be?!…but hopefully you’ll find something to spark your creativity nonetheless!

There are so many ways to go about designing a scrapbook layout.  Today I’m going to share two of my layouts and how I was inspired in designing them.

The first one uses a method I call “scraplifting yourself”.  I’ve done this numerous times and it’s a great page starter!  I browse through my folder of digital scrapbook layouts and pick one that I like.
This time it was “you are loved”.

Then I copy all of the photo and paper spaces onto a new layout and clip new photos and papers to them.  Play around with the rotation, placement, and embellishments and you have a brand new layout!

You’ll notice that on this one I rotated the main photo and papers to better fit my photos.

I love doing this because it gives me a little head start on the page, yet keeps my own personal style and I’m pretty sure to end up with something that I love.

Sometimes I’m inspired by a simple embellishing idea.  For my summery layout (one of my last 2011 pages to scrap!) I knew that I wanted to keep the photo large so as not to lose the lazy summer day feel, but I wasn’t sure where to go from there.  I remembered some e-mail ads I’d received and stuck in an inspiration folder (yes, I subscribe to junk mail because they’re pretty, lol!).

Here’s what I noticed and liked about these ads.

ads are all from here

Using these little bits of inspiration, I came up with this layout.

I know many of us are going through winter right now, but this one is for you on the other side of the world!

I did (again) turn a stripe into a plaid on this last layout.  I’ll be back tomorrow to show you how I did it!  Thanks for stopping by!

Lovely layouts and inspiration as always Rosy! I love the idea of looking back at your own layouts for inspiration. I think I do this, but not quite in the way you suggest here. I’ll have to try it!!

Thank you, Kim! It makes scraplifting faster when you have access to the layered document!

Wonderful summer page, well they are all very nice, but I like that one especially. :)

I also look at ads for inspiration!

Looking forward to finding out how to change a stripe into a plaid.

I love the notched edges on the photo and the inner outline – can you tell us how you did both of those features?

Hi Dani, instead of taking the time to figure out how to make my own; I used the notched background found in the Template Challenge Seven here on the blog. For the outline, I shrunk a duplicate of the background and then load selection (in my program I hold the ctrl key and click on the layer to do this). Once my shape is outlined with the marching ants I make a new blank layer and with this new layer selected I added an inside stroke. This one is white with the opacity turned down.
This sounds so complicated! Does anyone have an easier way of doing a shaped stroke on it’s own layer?!

Great post! Sometimes when I am stuck in a rut w/ no creative mojo, I browse the galleries… but hadn’t thought of browsing my own pages to lift something from there. So clever! :) And I love that you’re going to show people how to turn a striped paper into a plaid… it’s one of my favorite things to do! I do it all the time, LOL… I have a tiny plaid obsession… :) ha

Rosy I love your work and your pages in your gallery flow together so perfectly. I love your use of colors and neutrals. I tend to use lots of brights and then it looks too bright. Where do you get your color inspriation? How do you keep from using too much of the fabulous bright color found in the shoppe?

Thank you, Elizabeth, you are so sweet! I like to pull some colors from my photos if I can or go with colors that have the right feel/mood for the story I’m telling. I admire those who can do lots of bright colors in a layout, but I’ve found that I’m generally happier with the end result if I use a neutral background with pops of color. Bright colors can have lots of impact if used in small amounts! But that’s just my approach and there is no right or wrong way of scrapping!

Thanks, Casharina. Yes, isn’t it fun how you can get so many different looks out of one basic design!
