a new year and a new project…
Tuesday, January 4, 2011

Hey guys…SP here and i’ll try to keep this one short and sweet :o) I think this is my first post since the new year (it’s all a blur so far, lol) – so…I wanted to officially say HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone…hope it has already been a wonderful one!
Like many of you (at least I assume, lol) – I have made some resolutions for 2011 – although, I prefer not to use the word RESOLUTION, lol! I think that it has almost become synonymous with ‘not follow through’ :o) And hey, while that may be VERY fitting for me – i’d still rather give myself a little hope at least, lol :o) So – this year, I am going with DECLARATION (or maybe goal…or intention…not sure yet)! Most are pretty standard, like BE HEALTHIER (hey – it’s on the list EVERY year and who am I to break tradition?)…read more…travel, etc. Another huge one for me is to protect myself from the sun! I know, that’s not a very exciting one, is it? BUT, the truth is that it is something so important…that I do not take seriously enough. My goal is to not leave the house without sunscreen this year! I am not getting any younger and I have already done so much damage to my skin via the sun…I guess it’s time to at least stop making it worse :o) Hopefully when I am older (trust me, i’m already old enough, lol) – I’ll thank the younger me for it!
Of course, there are more declarations, intentions, resolutions, goals – what have you :o)
The one that I’d really like to touch upon has a lot to do with scrapping and taking pictures! Even though i’m ‘Shabby Princess’…and scrapping and photography are both so central and essential to my job…I’m amazed at how little I scrap these days…and even more, how few photos I take! Granted…our little man is growing up and the ‘cute’ photo opps are few and far between (don’t get me wrong, he is stinkin’ adorable, lol – but you know what I mean)…but I should still be taking more pics than what I am! I started thinking that what I need is MOTIVATION! I need to be prompted and challenged and have some kind of accountability in order to make this ‘goal’ a reality!
So, along those lines and thoughts – I decided to start a ‘scrap 2011′ project (no, that will not be the official name…still working on it, lol)! I know lots of sites and blogs host these kinds of projects – though I am not sure how everyone else does theirs (I have heard of the daily photo challenges, etc.). For me – there is just no way I could keep up with a photo a day (much less a scrapbook layout a day, or even a week, lol) – so I wanted to do something that was realistic, practical and NOT stressful, at least in my eyes :o) I’m sure I can’t be the only one who really WANTS to join in something like this…but that doesn’t have the time or desire to do bunches and bunches! I just can’t bring myself to start something when I know from the get-go that I won’t be able to keep up, lol! I prefer to set myself up for success (and not failure!) :o)
I do plan to keep this project/challenge/mission somewhat simple as I can’t add too much more to my plate at this time – and I want to play along, too lol!
While I am not ready to ‘spill it’ all now – I did want to mention this much NOW so that we do not all get behind before we even get started, LOL! SOOOOOOO – if you have any desire or interest to join in the fun…I want you to take TWO photos this week (before it’s over, lol)…of ANYTHING! It can be of your dinner, your children, a sporting event, flowers, landscape, your nail polish, lol – IT DOES NOT MATTER! Both photos can be from the same day (or not) - of the same event, anything! But, the goal is to have TWO PHOTOS PER WEEK AND TWO LAYOUTS PER MONTH. At the end of the year – you will have a gorgeous album ready to put together and print…and without all of the stress :o) ARE YOU WITH ME? If so – be sure to take those two photos this week (and next and the next and…)! I’ll be back next Thursday (13 January) with all of the details and information! Again, my sincere hope is to keep this FUN and stress-free…and most importantly – help ALL OF US to scrap 2011 and all of our wonderful memories that have yet to be made :o)
Well, so much for ‘short and sweet’, huh? LOL…some things just never change :o) I’ll see you back here THIS Thursday with a brand new TEMPLATE CHALLENGE (eight)! Until then – have a great week!
xoxo — SP

I’m in, I just started digi scrapping and am loving it!
Jan 07, 2011 @ 12:55:50
YAY! I love this! Oh, and SP – you should just remove “SHORT” from your vocab, LOL!! You can keep the sweet part though :)
I’m totally in! In fact, through a photography forum in which I participate, I’m in two different p52 photo groups (that’s project 52, as in once photo a week)…one for regular old photography, and one for MACRO photography! So I will have at least one fun regular photo and one fun macro shot each week for this project!!
YAY!!
Jan 05, 2011 @ 18:24:01
Can’t wait to hear more about it! I’m excited to start!
Jan 05, 2011 @ 18:05:33
Sounds perfect SP!!!
Jan 05, 2011 @ 17:53:19
I’m totally with you. I LOVE to scrap, but have been so overwhelmed over the years by trying to get caught up, that I always feel like I’m failing. Little goals, and baby steps, right?
Jan 05, 2011 @ 17:25:40
Wonderful challenge idea SP!!! Can’t wait to play along too!! :o)
Jan 05, 2011 @ 16:16:32
YES! I want to do this!!!
Jan 05, 2011 @ 14:43:33
I am in. This will help me a lot both for individual layouts and contributing toward my Year-in-Review album for 2011.
Jan 05, 2011 @ 11:38:49
great idea! I’m with you… ;)

After doing my first digital books for my mother as a Christmas gift I realized that I went about it the wrong way. I had to combine pages, cut pages, you name it because the book was going to be like over $200 on Shutterfly!!!! And I wasn’t happy with the result, particularly since I had to drop down to 8×8. So I have already set myself up for a two page spread for each month. Any tips on where to print cheaply individual pages for a big book for myself as the year goes by, any tips on where to print a bound one too, I would greatly appreciate it. So far I’m finding pages to be around $7.00 for a 12×12 page – is that normal?
Well, didn’t mean to put that on a blog comment, sorry! So I’m really excited to hear more about this project – seems right up my alley because I’m at a loss of how to do a year album without it becoming a nightmare. Lol!
Jan 05, 2011 @ 16:12:32
NO, $7.00 is NOT normal. Do you have a Costco where you live? That’s where I have mine printed. If not, then try http://polkadotpotato.com/digital-art/ You can pay for shipping and STILL have it be much less expensive. $7.00 is outragious!

Check out Sams. I find that my membership is paid for by the savings on my printing. they do 8 x 10 for about $150 and they will do 12 x 12 on 12 x 18 and cut it down for you for about $250. I recently found a local printer who does pages for 12 x 12s for $1.00 I recommend you check your local printers (digital not offset) and see what they charge. I did a 65 page album for my daughters 30th birthday and printed it 8 1.2 x 11 to go in a traditional album for 49 cents for an 8 1/2 x 11 page with a local printer. These guys will do 8 1/2 by 11 where as the photo places will do only 8 x 10s. I hear that shutterfly is good, but have never tried them.
Jan 05, 2011 @ 17:31:42
Wow – had no idea about Sams. I heard about Costco, but we don’t have one. I live in the CO mountains, the boonies :), so it is difficult. I’ll check out Sam’s though. Didn’t even realize they had printing services. Thanks.

I just started printing mine through persnicketyprints.com. LOVE them!!! Very high quality for a much more reasonable price. And they don’t cut off any of your page (something I noticed from other places I’ve tried).
Good luck!!!
Jan 05, 2011 @ 21:24:21
I have used http://www.scrapbookpictures.com and had good results. The 12×12 prints were $2.04 each and the 8×8 prints were $1.73. They also offer books but I do not know the pricing.
Jan 07, 2011 @ 12:53:41
THIS!! I use and love scrapbook pictures.com. Their matte paper (not really matte, more of a lustre) is wonderful and I get great results every time!). Once or twice a year they runs sales – either on shipping or the cost of the prints, which is what I watch out for.
Jan 28, 2011 @ 02:50:09
I use blurb.com to make my books. I’ve made books for the whole year and usually end up with 100-150 ish pages for $100. Thats a 12×12 printed on premium paper with a custom cover. I really like the result!! I don’t use their templates, just upload my designed jpgs to an empty page. Much more reasonable and flexible for larger/longer books than picaboo or shutterfly and I think the quality is much better!

this is so doable…i love the idea!
Jan 05, 2011 @ 09:20:13
I love this idea. This sounds perfect for me.
Jan 05, 2011 @ 09:16:03
i’m totally in. i always have good intentions but seem to lack on the execution. hopefully with the inspiration, i can keep on top of it! i can’t wait to get the full scoop! <3
Jan 05, 2011 @ 09:05:45
I love this challenge! I think I can handle it. :-) Can’t wait to see more about it.
Jan 05, 2011 @ 08:07:19
I love this idea! I always end up with lots of photos at holidays and then nothing between the holidays. I want to capture the more casual day to day moments. I love the challenge idea. Let’s get it going soon!
Jan 05, 2011 @ 00:02:50
Game On! This is just what I need – and it seems very doable, and it will help me keep my scrap-booking resolution!
Jan 04, 2011 @ 22:01:54
Hi ya, I think this is a fantastic idea. Two photos a week and Two Layouts a month is so more manageable than a lot of the others. I have already taken two photos this week and I am eager to scrap them.
Jan 04, 2011 @ 18:55:01
I’m with you! I LOVE it!!! I can’t wait to start! I have not done the others before due to time and knowing I wouldn’t have the time to keep up with it and so I just didn’t do it. This is a GREAT idea! I know I can keep up with this and stress free! YAY!!! I am so excited to do this! :D Thank you SP! You are the BEST! Happy New Year!
