free January desktop :o)

Hi guys…SP here again :o)  This is a quick post to share the FREE, 2011 January desktops!  So – I should probably start by saying HAPPY 2011, lol…even though we have a couple of days to go :o)  As you probably know – we have been running a poll for a while here on the blog to find out the top TWO desktop sizes that you guys want!  I was surprised to find that we need to make no changes at this time, lol!  Selfishly – I was hoping that the 1920×1200 size would make its way to second place, but no such luck, lol!  That is my screen resolution…and I haven’t gotten to use one of our free desktops in a LONG time, lol!  Oh well :o)  We’ll try to run the poll every six months or so to see if there are any changes…and will make any necessary modifications :o)  I know many of you wish we could design EVERY size each month (I do, too, lol) - but I’m sure you understand that that is just not possible.  So, we hope that you can enjoy our monthly free desktops…and if they don’t work for you – be sure to check back and vote in our next poll – it’s the only way we can be sure we are creating the most wanted/needed sizes!

So…here is our first free desktop of 2011 – designed by our wonderfully sweet and talented KYLIE (thanks so much!)!  It has a magical feel to it…and while there are some fun little snowflakes on there – it is pretty versatile and will work even if you are not in the middle of winter right now (or do not have snow)!  ENJOY!

As always – THANK YOU so much for stopping by…and for enjoying our desktops :o)  We plan to keep them coming…

Not so sure about this information. I was always taught differently, but hey! It’s nice people have different opinions and methods isn’t it?

    Hi!

I just love the desktops, all of theme!
But there is one thing I wish you could do. Since I´m from Sweden and we, like many others in Europe, use Mon-Sun calendars, could you perhaps make the dates in a seperate png? That way it’d be easy to put in my own dates, and no extra trouble for you really. I kept looking at the wrong dates last year, silly me. ;)Got a bit confusing… LOL.

Thanks for all the beautiful stuff you are handing out here.

This is the first time I’ve used one of your desktops, and it’s beautiful – but I can’t figure out how to put my own pics in it. Can you please help?

Beautiful. Forgive me, how do you “fit” the pictures in?

      Hi crewtondix!!

Thanks for asking! When there are photo frames that overlap I usually create a new shape layer for each photo, a rectangle in this case. I position each new shape layer under each frame, line it up and then use the shape as a clipping mask for my photo. Decrease the photo size, move it around etc until I’m happy with the fit. If you are unfamiliar with creating shapes in your particular software, it is generally a quick and easy process so, have a look at your software HELP options and check out the Shabby Shoppe tutorials – in particular the ‘clipping masks’. http://www.theshabbyshoppe.com/tutorials/software_tutorials.asp

Hope I’ve been able to help you out here! :o)

As usual, I LOVE it! I know that I have mentioned this before- but I put pictures of our girls into the desktops each month and email them to my mom (who is young but very disabled due to MS and homebound). I know that she loves to get them and I am so thankful for beautiful desktops each month to send her. :)
    THANK YOU!

Thank you SO much for doing these! I just LOVE them – and if I don’t have them to my Mom by the first of the month, I get a *reminder* note from her!! She loves her “Nana” one too!

Thanks for making it easy for us!

    LOVE LOVE LOVE Shabby!

I do one desktop each month that goes on my home and work computers and my mother’s computer, all with different resolutions. Sometimes the difference is slim enough that stretching doesn’t make it look all funky, but when it does, I pick a complimentary color and use that as the background, giving it something of a “matted” or “framed” look. Just an idea for those whose preferred resolution isn’t among the chosen ones!

Hi Lia :o) Thanks so much for the kind words! And, I know that Kylie worked with lots of my products/kits on this desktop (it is quite the collaboration, lol)! You can always find a list of all kits/products worked with on a desktop in the TOU included with the download (it is the .txt file). I hope that helps – thanks again, Lia…and enjoy!
