And not the kind you might think!
This week we’re offering up some new inspiration…a scrapbooking “recipe challenge”! Simply use the ingredients listed – and ONLY the ingredients listed – to create your own layout!
The directions on the card read:
Ingredients:
2 solid papers
2 patterned papers
3 photos
1 fastener (used TWO times!)
1 Alpha
5 Miscellaneous embellishments
Directions:
Use all the ingredients listed to create your own layout! Fonts are freebies and you may use as many as you like.
Miscellaneous embellishments could include ribbons, flowers, stickers, rub-ons, etc. Some may be repeated but each copy counts towards the 5 allowed!
Be creative! Your photos can be big or small! your papers can be big or small! how you combine the ingredients is TOTALLY up to you!
Textured papers, and those with slight color variations, still count as “solid” paper. Fasteners can be ANYTHING used to hold something down! staple, tape, frame, stitching, etc – all counts as a fastener! Free items, which you are allowed use whether listed on the recipe card or not, include:
- Clipping masks/elements (like the Scallops, Shapes and More)
- Fonts
- Shadows
For a little added inspiration – you’ll have a chance to win a $10 gift card to the Shoppe! All entries must be received by the end of the day Saturday, June 5th. The winner will be announced the morning of Monday, June 7th! To be eligible you must upload your layout to the Shabby Shoppe Blog Challenge Gallery AND post a comment here with a link to your layout! The winner will be chosen randomly. You must follow the recipe to be eligible to win!
And, just for a little inspiration – here is a LO that SP created for the challenge :o)
If you have any questions, please post a comment here! I’ll try to keep this post updated to reflect any rules clarifications that may be required :o)
Happy Scrapping!!
Note: the recipe card was created with elements from French Countryside. Fonts used are Adobe Caslon Pro, Pea Anna Bananna, and Pea Quinny.

Finally managed to finish this. I love these challenges as I struggle to pull pages together from scratch. I hope to keep on improving. http://www.theshabbyshoppe.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=27501&title=mucky-pup&cat=856

I am enjoying the challenges here. Challenges really help me get layouts done.
I uploaded my layout, but somewhere between saving and uploading, the two sections of stitching (my fasteners) disappeared. I have about 1 1/2 ” of stitching on the upper edge between the tan and striped papers and another 1 12/” of stitching on the bottom edge between the striped and blue papers.

hi :o) so sorry for your troubles…i think i can help! any time anyone has ever had issues uploading to the gallery – it is because of the file size. We have our gallery upload size set to a max of 2mb (which is really huge by gallery standards)…so, if your file is larger than that, it will not complete the upload process. I just peeked at your gallery and noticed that your halloween layout (which i ADORE) is pretty large (though not over the 2mb limit) – so I’m guessing this might be the issue :o) Most of us reduce our layouts to about 600×600 pixels at 72dpi (screen resolution) and save as a JPG file. Most of my layouts that I upload are under 400k – so i think you’ll see that it will be pretty easy to get it under the 2mb limit :o) i truly hope this helps at least a little! here at some point in the future, we will try to put together a quick and easy tutorial for saving layouts at web size/resolution, etc. if you have any more questions – just let us know! THANKS AGAIN…can’t wait to see your layout!
May 29, 2010 @ 15:10:32
that was indeed the problem, the file i was trying to load was 3.09mb. thanks for getting back to me.

yep, i posted twice.LOL!
May 27, 2010 @ 11:44:14
lol, np, Lu :o) i’ll delete one for ya. what happens is that sometimes when you (collective you lol) post a link in the comments – it gets marked as spam until one of us can manually approve it. so if you ever post a web link and your comment doesn’t immediately show up…that’s what it was :o) LOVE the page!

Here’s mine! I tried to follow the “recipe” perfectly…hopefully didn’t leave out/add too many ingredients!

I enjoyed this one. Made me STOP and finish the layout since I was out of ingredients. Just proves that I can do a layout I love with less layers! Thanks for the challenges!

Hi,
I’ve created a page for this, but I can’t get it to upload to my gallery. At first I thought it was too large (18mb) so I reduced it to 5mb, but it still doesn’t seem to load. This is the first time I’ve tried to upload to a gallery, or take part in a challenge, so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. The file is a .png.
Hope you can help, becuase I had fun with this.
May 26, 2010 @ 07:31:25
Hi Anne :o) Thanks so much for the post and especially for giving so much info – it really helps us to figure things out! and…good news, it wil be an easy ‘fix’! We have our gallery upload size set to a max of 2mb (which is really huge by gallery standards)…so, your file is still too large. Most will reduce their layout size to about 600×600 pixels at 72dpi (screen resolution) and save as a JPG file. Keep in mind that saving as a JPG will result in a much smaller file size for you. PNG files are perfect when you need a transparent background, but after you have flattened your layout for posting on the web…a JPG is perfect. THANKS AGAIN, Anne…can’t wait to see your layout!
May 26, 2010 @ 07:53:50
Yay! Thanks for that. I saw that there was a limit of 200000kb or however many but I couldn’t remember how big that actually was. *blush*

Beautiful layout with our girl…(as always)! :0)
May 24, 2010 @ 15:27:15
Hi everyone! I’ve updated the original blog post to have a TEXT version of recipe card :o)
Thanks, and have fun!! I can’t wait to see your layouts in the gallery!!
May 24, 2010 @ 12:38:16
I can’t quite read the fourth item either so don’t feel silly Michelle. I think it might say fastener, but I’m not really sure what that is suppose to be. I didn’t see anything in the example page that looked like what I would consider a fastener. Of course I’m not even sure that’s what it actually says.
May 24, 2010 @ 12:49:51
hi Sarah :o) it does say FASTENER - that could be anything that ‘fastens’ something (i.e. photo, frame, element, paper, etc.) down – like a staple, tape, photo corner, anchor, paper clip, stitching, etc. if you click on my example layout – it takes you to the page in the shoppe’s gallery, where i explain how and what i used for each of the ‘ingredients’. i hope this helps – have fun :o)
May 24, 2010 @ 13:43:34
So helpful! I didn’t notice the link at firs. Thanks!
May 24, 2010 @ 11:45:13
Sounds like a fun challenge! :)
I just wondered, though, if there are any restrictions about products used- is this a SP-product-only sort of challenge, or can we use anything we have on hand?
May 24, 2010 @ 12:51:53
Hi Becky – thanks for your comment! And…the Shoppe’s gallery is for Shabby Shoppe products only (and any of our free kits from the ShabbyPrincess.com site as well) – so to be entered in the challenge – you will have to scrap with our products so that you can post in our gallery and link back here :o) hope this helps and that you join in the fun! thanks again!

Hi, I’m new to digital scrapbooking, but I would really like to enter this contest. I was wondering what the 4th thing down in the ingredients is the one that says (used to 2 times). I feel silly asking, but I really want to do this right. Thanks!
May 24, 2010 @ 12:53:31
hey Michelle – WELCOME to digi scrapping :o) and – i left a detailed comment above about that ‘ingredient’…but just wanted to let ya know that it is FASTENER :o) thanks a bunch…hope you have fun scrapping!
May 24, 2010 @ 15:28:04
And welcome to digital scrapbooking, Michelle!!
